9/11 Memorial of Maryland

Dedicated on September 11, 2011, the 9/11 Memorial of Maryland at Baltimore World Trade Center honors the extraordinary heroism, commitment and sacrifice of Maryland’s 9/11 victims, rescuers, first responders and their families. The Memorial provides a special place of contemplation and a site to remember and reflect upon the events of September 11, 2001.

The Memorial's focal point is an artifact from the Twin Towers, selected by a delegation of members of the Maryland Commission on Public Art, the Maryland Port Administration and the Maryland State Arts Council.

The artwork's moving and changing DNA sculptural forms beautifully reflect the leading-edge genetic breakthroughs taking place inside of the University of Maryland Baltimore Health Sciences Research Facility III Building.

Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts & Entertainment District

The Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts and Entertainment District celebrates the richness of African American arts and culture. The district honors the past, creating moments to remember in the present, and looks toward a bright future.  

Bromo Tower Arts and Entertainment District

Anchored to the south by the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, this A&E envelops historic Lexington Market and Antique Row. Inside, you'll find a plethora of funky arts organizations, established theater venues, galleries, restaurants, and exciting public art.

Station North Arts and Entertainment District

Located in the heart of Baltimore, Station North spans the neighborhoods of Charles North, Greenmount West, and Barclay, with a diverse collection of artist live-work spaces, galleries, rowhomes, and businesses, just steps away from Penn Station.    

Highlandtown Arts and Entertainment District

Highlandtown’s A&E District (a.k.a. "ha!") envelops the Baltimore neighborhoods of Highlandtown, Patterson Park and parts of Canton and Greektown. ha! offers artists opportunities to live and work in one of the most culturally diverse areas of the city.

SYLVIE VAN HELDEN
Sylvie van Helden was born in Montreal, Canada in 1974. After a brief stint in Biology, she moved to Baltimore in 2000 to attend the Mount Royal Program at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Upon graduating with her MFA in 2002, she taught at the college and high school levels for 13 years. Her works have been shown in local, regional, and national shows at venues such as Maryland Art Place, Hillyer Art Space, The Autry Museum of The American West, and the Painting Center.
