I am an oil painter of colorful, vibrant palette knife paintings. In my work I seek to create a sense of place, capturing the light, energy, and soul of my subject. With my knife, I describe what I see with layers of paint – sometimes loading it on in bold strokes, sometimes sgraffitoing by drawing or scratching into the wet paint, and often almost sculpting the paint to tell my story. My goal is to create a joyful and sophisticated work of art that speaks of the beauty found all around us, painted with love and thoughtful abandon.
A stalwart with the Easton community, Betty Huang has had an interest in the arts from a young age. Our life’s journey takes us through so many changes and to many places, and so it is with my artwork, which evolves on an ongoing basis.
I am inspired by, and love to paint and draw from nature; always looking to explore the impact of color and to highlight the juxtaposition of darks and lights - how one enhances and beautifies the other. Nicholas is self-taught, and began drawing as soon as he was able to hold a pencil. Upon graduation of high school, after receiving numerous awards for his art, he made a left-turn and entered into business studies, eventually starting his own small business.
In 2012, after watching an inspirational film about street artist ‘Banksy’, he picked up a paintbrush and decided to return to his artistic roots.
He describes his floral-based art as “compositionally avante-garde, combining abstract with hyper-modern”. Materials include traditional oils, spray paint and house paint.
