I believe that art is a unifying force; that it can bring together unlikely friends, or provide space for like-minded people to develop meaningful relationships. Because we need connections to thrive, Art, in any form, is necessary for our collective survival as humans and the growth of society.
About the Artist
I am an active resident of Baltimore City currently working with several, nonprofit organizations to lead art workshops and classes with young people. I am a visual artist and advocate. I am deeply passionate and supportive of Baltimore's DIY music scene. While I am very excited to begin bringing my community practice into that space, I am currently finishing my MFA in Community Arts at MICA, and looking forward to opportunities to showcase my personal art practice which is multidisciplinary.Artist's Statement
My multidisciplinary artistic journey started early but became serious in adolescence. My high school art teacher saw in me a talent and drive motivated by the hellish home life I was suffering from behind closed doors. I was never allowed to discuss that strife with friends or other family members, but my art became an outlet to express the pain and fear I had been forced to contend with. It was that same art teacher who helped support me while I was in the process of running away from that home. Since then, my artistic vision has developed through being in service of others, engaging the communities around me as I have continued planting shallow roots and being transient. I have recently been centering my personal struggles through extreme poverty, domestic violence, and homelessness to more deeply heal the traumas coming along with my experiences of invisibility, isolation, dissociation, and adversity. As a result, my art strives to be provocative, expressive, conscious, deliberate, and intentional. I consider my art to be successful if the viewer walks away from my work thinking.Booking
