My art is a growing collection of visual narratives exploring the internal and external reality of the body. This ever-expanding compilation is an examination of the biological horrors experienced under Christian white supremacy and transphobia in late stage capitalism. These narratives take the form of paintings, illustrations, fibers, animations, videos, installations, and sequential art. By mixing traditional and digital mediums, and giving these mediums reverence as their own sentient organisms, I collaborate with these materials to create a cohesive visual language throughout my body of work. This visual language is built on dichotomies of color and texture, and through the use of specific symbols and iconography. The warmth of flesh and blood with intimate attention to pattern contrast with cold, technical depictions of wires and religious icons; man-made institutions. Emphasis on movement through gestural markmaking and care for form connect these dichonomies to show that they are all living organisms. The connection, the contrast, and the symbolism therein, joins biological processes with technology and Christian imagery. Whether abstract or representational, it all comes back to the body. This practice allows for grieving for what has been lost in development and holding close to what remains in order to find acceptance in a fragmented self. It is a practice that aims to explore the wounds the world leaves behind; rather than simply bandaging the injury, my art investigates why the blood was shed in the first place.
