Generally speaking, I am interested in the interplay of opposites and the creation of diverse atmospheres. I like visual enigmas. I like to allow for spontaneity in the choice of subject matter. I like to present fragments of information because by doing so, I invite the viewers to connect the dots, expand their vision, and form interpretations. The surfaces of my canvases look like collage, but they are entirely painted surfaces. The choice of subject matter comes from my "umwelt," and as this environment is constantly changing, so is my art.
About the Artist
Cindy, originally from Lancaster, PA, currently lives in Bel Air, MD, where she does large scale mixed media paintings out of her studio. A world traveler, she has participated in numerous group and solo shows in the mid-Atlantic region as well as Morocco, Spain, France, and Spain. This international exposure has allowed her to embrace cultural diversity and international connectivity--two prevalent themes in her work. Artist's Statement
My most recent series about rainbows is the product of the joy I felt after coronavirus restrictions were lifted, and there was a gradual return to pre-pandemic normality. A rainbow--a magical, mystical, mythical phenomenon--is a fitting vehicle to express that emergence from the darkness, but instead of painting stereotypical celestial arches, I wanted to develop more nuanced, colorful, amorphous entities against a variety of grey patterned backgrounds. Ethereal and fleeting in nature, a rainbow transcends concrete reality and offers a glimmer of hope. it conjures up feelings of celebration, gaiety, festivity, and functions as a symbol of diversity, a concept which has always been a key component in my art.Featured Work
