I hope to use my skills as an artist/illustrator whether through books, ceramics or other media to further a mindset to inspire social and environmental empathy.

About the Artist

Dana Simson is an illustrator/author and the design force behind Chesapeake East Company, producing her handmade designs in paintings/prints, ceramic, jewelry, decor and gifts. Her engaging imagery has also been licensed internationally in fabric, rugs, stationary, home decor, gift items, and tabletop. Her store closed in Salisbury, MD January 2020- but please do visit her online store full of uplifting treats at danasimson.com Dana’s work is in many private collections and several museums. Her artwork has been featured in many national magazines, placed in TV shows and Hollywood movies, including Titanic. Video and podcasts featuring Dana are available on her about/ NEWS page on her website. These days Dana creates one of a kind work singularly made by her in her home studio on an island in the Chesapeake Bay. You can visit the Chesapeake East studio/store at 501 West Main Street on the Wicomico River in downtown Salisbury, Maryland or check out her website at danasimson.com. Her inspiration remains nature, reflected in her latest books, paintings and ceramic sculptures. As a life-long environmentalist, Dana endeavors to use her skills as an artist to promote environmental issues.

Artist's Statement

The animals are innocent is a traveling exhibit opening 2019-Jan 2020 at the Henry Sheldon Museum, Middlebury, VT. There is a pdf of the exhibit in book form available from Dana. The facility must have a safe way to show/protect the 10 ceramic folk art boats full of animals and paintings. Plexiglass boxes are recommended for the sculptures.
