I’m a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, displacement across three countries and languages, drug addiction, and suicidal desperation. Jesus met me at the end of my rope—not with platitudes but with presence.
The studio is where I worship. Every layer of paint, every application of gold to broken surfaces, every hour documented in time-lapse—this is how I pray. The work isn’t about religious subject matter; it’s the physical act of participating in God’s ongoing creative and redemptive work.
The Gospel Narrative, Gethsemane, From Death to Life—these aren’t illustrations of Bible stories. They’re visual testimonies that resurrection is real because I’m living it. The 24k gold in the cracks isn’t decoration; it’s kintsugi theology: beauty emerges from brokenness when Love meets you in the wound.
Tech sales provides financial freedom. Teaching keeps me grounded. But the studio—layering acrylics and resin, inscribing theological truth in Posca pen, watching what was hidden become visible—that’s where I encounter the Holy Spirit as co-creator. That’s where worship happens.
About the Artist
Ed Siu, received his bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in the summer of 2000. He’s been making art for a few decades amassing a body of work that is diverse and autobiographical. Each piece is part of a meta-narrative about love, sanctification, and the creative process; like puzzle pieces, they fit together and tell a story over time. Ed’s art incorporates a range of techniques and Biblical narratives through abstract imagery. He’s also on the Board of a non-profit called Paradox, Inc. that exists to train and platform artists.
