About the Artist
Ms. Gambino earned an MFA in illustration from SCAD in 2005, and studied education at Johns Hopkins after earning an interdisciplinary BA in writing, international studies, and studio art from Hampshire College. She has exhibited artwork in Georgia, Alabama, Massachusetts, Maryland, Tennessee, France and Malaysia. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum and the Royal Pahang Art Museum She has travelled to Morocco as a Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellow, and was awarded NEA’s Learning and Leadership Grant in 2016 to present research on design thinking at the NAEA National Conference. Ms. Gambino has been training art educators for eleven years, and has written curricula for Arts Everyday, the Black Male Identity Project, BCPSS, Maryland State Department of Education, and Pearsons, and presented twice in the AIC’s National Art Education Curriculum Slam. Ms. Gambino has garnered research grants from the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, the Cornell Ornithological Lab, Earthwatch, the Fulbright Association, Fondation Tenot, FMSAC, VSA Arts, IIE, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and more. KINF and Parks and People has sponsored vertical gardening design projects and BOPA has supported social justice poster design in her classroom. She has collaborated internationally on environmental art and education programs with National Geographic. She teaches in all media with interest focuses in drawing and painting, visual storytelling, and environmental conservation. She is fluent in French/conversational in Spanish. Elisabeth Gambino has been teaching art in Baltimore City Public Schools for sixteen years and is passionate about socially engaged practices, teaching art and yoga.
