EMILY CONOVER

About the Artist

Emily Conover received a BS degree from Purdue University, a BA degree in Studio Art from the University of Maryland College Park, and an MFA degree from the University of Maryland College Park. While at the University of Maryland, she was awarded a Graduate Fellowship, and she also received the David C. Driskell Award for outstanding visual thesis and excellence in teaching. She has been teaching painting and drawing at the University of Maryland in College Park since 1999. Ms. Conover has participated in exhibitions in the metro Washington, DC area, and Baltimore, as well as New York City, Los Angeles, and Long Island City, NY. Most notable of these exhibitions include "Shtik Fleisch Mit Tzvei Eigen", FotoMuseum, Antwerp, Belgium, curated by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, "Seeing Red: A Juried Exhibition", curated by Sam Gilliam at Arts/Harmony Hall, Fort Washington, MD, "Mixed Media" at Wohlfarth Galleries, curated by Jefferson Pinder, in Washington, DC, "Masters in Our Midst", Lowe House Building, Annapolis, MD, "Translation", curated by Annie Gawlak at Arts 901 in Washington, DC, and "The Poetry of Paint" at Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in Laurel, MD. She was selected as one of ten Washington, DC area artists for the exhibition "New Talent" at Rockville Arts Place. She received a juror's award for her entry in the traveling exhibition "Drawing and Redefining Drawing: Invitations and Selections" by Manon Cleary sponsored by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Other exhibitions include group shows at the University of Maryland University College, the University of Maryland College Park, Glassell School of Art, the University of West Florida, and Purdue University.
