About the Artist

James Kane (b. 1990, Baton Rouge, LA) received his MFA in Painting from Indiana University (2022), and his BFA from Louisiana State University (2014). His paintings explore the share experience of queerness and its role in our history and culture, depicting moments of tenderness, community, and camaraderie between men. He has shown nationwide, including exhibitions in Birmingham, New Orleans, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and New York. During his time living in Mississippi, Kane's work was included in the Mississippi Museum of Art’s Invitational Exhibition, the Meridian Museum of Art’s Annual Bi-State Exhibition, and the University of Southern Mississippi’s National Juried Painting Exhibition. His decade of professional experience spans museum and gallery work, arts education, and freelance commissions. He is based in Baltimore, MD.
