Their infectious grooves, improvisational flair, and second-line spirit turn any space into a celebration. Whether parading through the streets or taking the stage, they create a joyful, dance-driven atmosphere that brings people together. Known as one of Maryland’s hardest-hitting brass bands, they channel the authentic sound and culture of New Orleans, keeping the tradition alive while making it their own. Artist's Statement

Naptown Brass Band is a high-energy New Orleans–style brass band based in Annapolis, Maryland, dedicated to bringing the spirit of second line culture to communities across the region. Founded in 2012, the band blends traditional brass band roots with funk, jazz, and modern favorites to create engaging performances that connect with audiences of all ages. The group performs throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic at festivals, cultural events, concert series, parades, and community celebrations. Naptown Brass Band is committed to audience participation and accessibility, often transforming performances into interactive experiences that encourage dancing, movement, and community connection. In addition to public performances, the band offers educational and outreach programs that introduce students and community groups to the history and cultural significance of New Orleans brass band traditions, improvisation, and the role of music in civic celebration. By combining musical excellence with a focus on community engagement, Naptown Brass Band supports the Maryland State Arts Council’s mission to strengthen the arts as a vital part of community life while celebrating the rich traditions of American music.
