My work is informed by my life-long ecological conscience, my years as a clinical social worker, and motherhood. I am motivated by a quiet curiosity about how the world works, from ecosystems to communities, to people.
About the Artist
Stacy Doney is an artist, poet, and licensed clinical social worker. Since childhood she has been fascinated with how other beings live their lives, both in the social world of humans and the wild places outdoors. She has lived in Virginia, Massachusetts, and New York, and moved to Maryland in 2004. Her work is inspired by frequent walks, mystical poetry, meditation, music, visionary art, story, and relationships. She has a home studio called Kalmia Hill Arts, named after the Kalmia latifolia aka Mountain Laurel that grows in the woods around her home. Stacy's work has been exhibited at the Cecil College Galleries, in Cecil County, Maryland, the Palette and the Page, in Elkton, MD, The Street Road Gallery in Cochranville, PA, and the Cecil County Arts Council, in Elkton, MD. Her book of poetry, "What Flies Away", will be published by Tivshe Publishing in 2023Artist's Statement
My work is informed by my life-long ecological conscience, my years as a clinical social worker, and motherhood. I am motivated by a quiet curiosity about how the world works, from ecosystems, to communities, to people. As I attempt to understand an object or an entity, I elevate my subject’s status and hold it up as worthy of both protected space and reverence. My work is meant to magnify and empower, but also to allow close study and appreciation. Frequent walks outdoors have allowed me to compile an internal storehouse of imagery, as well as photographs, collected objects, and drawings. It is this storehouse that feeds my work, along with my own life experiences. My mantra is, "May I protect and serve the diversity of life, including my own". This feeling of protectiveness influences my choice of materials, as I consider the environmental impact of my work. I am an eclectic artist and express my ideas in poetry, watercolor, pencil, pastel, ink, papercut, and collage.Featured Work
