Tisza Ensemble (Hungarian)

Dance, Performance

About the Artist

Tisza Ensemble presents traditional Hungarian folk dances via classes and performances, and participates in táncház programs (dance houses), workshops, and camps across North America (and sometimes as far away as Hungary and Transylvania). Founded in 1982 by a group of dancers, Tisza's repertoire and outreach are predicated on the Hungarian táncház movement. Not only do performances include choreographies from various regions within the diverse ethnic Hungarian regions with their colorful costumes, but also a chance for audience participation. The idea of including others in this form of dance just underscores the essence of Hungarian village life - where the entire community could enjoy the energy and joy that folk music/dance could bring.
