About the Artist
I have been working as a cartoonist and art educator for 13 years, and have been working in schools for 21 years. I grew up reading superhero comics and now love making them and teaching others how to make them as well. Since receiving my degree in cartooning from The School of Visual Arts, I have taught art to all age groups, and have created artwork for clients including the Marvel and Disney. The gift of storytelling is so important in our lives. It is how we pass on lessons and share who we are with others. Art has been used to do this from before the written word was created, so through comic books there is a unique opportunity to strengthen two of the most important skills - writing and drawing - that one can learn.Zawadi website Cartooning Website Zawadi website Arts Education Program

Basca: A Haven by the Sea
Digital Visual Art
2022
Basca is one of the many havens created for my Havens curriculum. This illustration is featured in my self-published work and is used as a foundation for my students to build upon. By setting the stage, my students can begin to embed their own characters, locations and services, and stories within it. By asking them to describe what the park or the market might look like within Basca, students already have a point of reference to create from.
