The Puerto Rican classical guitarist graduated from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where he earned a Master of Music (M.M.) in Classical Guitar Performance under the tutelage of Iván Rijos, also took master classes with Manuel Barrueco as an artist in residence, and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Classical Guitar Performance under the tutelage of Leonardo Egúrbida, a disciple of Regino Sainz de la Maza and Alirio Diaz. He has had the honor of studying and participating in master classes under prestigious artists such, as Leonardo Egúrbida, Iván Rijos, Dr. José A.
Marc Marcel has been declared, “One of the most controversial and consciously aware spoken word artists ever,” by radio host Palmetto Star. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Marcel was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 10.
“It took me over a decade into my profession for me to realize poetry isn’t my gift,” Marc reveals, “Poetry is just a tool I’ve been using, to spread my gift through.” With his many artistic outlets, it is difficult to restrict himself to the labels of the art form. If one were to categorize his efforts, a philosopher would be more fitting.
Femi Lawal or Femi the DriFish has been a professional spoken word artist and slam poet for more than 10 years. Best known as one half of the spoken word/Hip Hop-influenced duo, THE 5th L, and the frontman for the Hip-Hop Rock band the Out of Water eXperience, Femi uses his artistry to encourage his listeners to discover their own unique voices and identities in his writings, performances, and teachings.
The Voice is an incredibly versatile creative tool. It manifests language, sound, and emotion. It emulates any sound in the environment. It reverberates in our own head when we vocalize, creating a dynamic feedback loop that can be a portal to deep inner discovery.
Kevin Martin, the founder of Rockcreek Steel Drums, has been building, teaching, and performing on steel pan musical instruments of Trinidad since 1989. We have taught over 100,000 people in person the joy of performing music on the steel pan and the steel tongue drum.
As a teaching artist, Kevin has visited over 300 schools bringing large group steel pan workshops and steel pan residencies throughout MD and the east coast.
