Super City
Over the last decade, Super City has steadily discovered its metier in sticky pop hooks, mercurial arrangements, gleaming production, and live shows that are equal parts calculated performance art and ecstatic dance party.   While every Super City song contains multitudes, the pop instincts that they’ve honed over the last decade are front and center. There are bright wisps of Stevie Wonder, Talking Heads, Prince, the 1975, and St. Vincent in their best pop songs, but Super City so completely chops and screws its influences that their music always feels crisp and forward-thinking.

Fences, Frames and Alleys is music arising from reflecting on growing up in a factory district
of South East Baltimore. The music is inspiring, often meditative;
yet at times jarring and always touches one’s heart. Music that is
just like life.I am forever grateful that music has continued to take me into her
confidence.

On the anniversary of the passing of my Father, a
steelworker for Bethlehem Steel, inspiration for the opening track
Taking Flight arrived. Remembering those nights sitting by the
pond on the big hill at City Hospital where I could see the ships on
the bay and out across the city lights, the inspiration for High
Land View flew in. I’ll never forget the day I visited my old “hood”
and what had been Anchor Fence Factory on Kane Street. The
smokestack rising from the brick and concrete mountain of rubble
is seared into my being. I was born here and raised across the
street from this huge factory. Out my front door I would hear metal
on metal. Sparks flew out of the windows on summer nights.
Anchor Fence Is Gone echo those past times.

The images captured are of my mother and sister, with audio recordings of conversations with my late grandmother, Margaret. This piece is a continuation of the portraits of the beautiful women in my family.

16mm cyanotype film loops are projected in a dual projection system, incorporating contact mic, synthesizer, and voice recordings.

For the past seven years, Heyni Solera and Maxfield Wollam-Fisher have been actively working together in bringing live tango music to the Washington D.C. area through their performances with Da Capo Tango.
Their collaboration led to their unique instrumentation as a cello/bandoneon duo. This dynamic duo focuses on playing tangos not commonly played on the dance floor and tangos written by composers who are alive today. Their mission is to foster a sense of community and collaboration between tango musicians, organizers, and dancers. They also provide outreach to new audiences that may not be aware of tango’s resurgence by working with directors and artists from other genres. In 2021, Arco & Aire released their first EP, Overture, whose track, “La Bordona” won the Best Latin Song for the 2022 Wammie Awards.

Bach en Bandoneon

See more information about Bach en Bandoneon
Originally conceived in 2020, Bach en Bandoneon, is a collaboration between bandoneonist Rodrigo Avalos and Heyni Solera.
The idea first began when Rodrigo and Heyni virtually recorded Bach’s Fugue No.16 from the 2nd book of the Well-Tempered Clavier for Heyni’s mini-series, "Today’s Tango with Heyni". The duo discovered that they enjoyed working together, and throughout 2020 they both arranged four of Bach’s preludes and fugues from the WTC. They also decided to each compose a Prelude and Fugue in homage to Bach. Once Argentina opened its borders to foreigners, Heyni was able to fly to Buenos Aires in late November of 2021. That month they spent together consisted of marathon rehearsals, composition, and adjusting to their arrangements. Those weeks of intense preparation culminated in two days of recording in the church, Iglesia de la Congregación Evangélica Alemana de Buenos Aires, which created a beautiful resonance that can be heard in the album. The Avalos-Solera duo successfully completed a tour in the United States in 2022, and a tour in Buenos Aires in March of 2023.
