John Sharp lives on the Eastern Shore. He strives to depict, through his art, the culture of a life working on the water as well as the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and Tidewater Region. With a lifetime of experiences, that include a career in education, and countless hours on the bay as a commercial waterman, charter boat captain, and recreational sailor, he has accumulated nearly a half-century of memories, observations, and experiences. With this background, he has had the rare opportunity to not only live, but also appreciate a way of life that may soon disappear forever.
Love to doodle in my paint. Sometimes the brush just dances on the canvas, love that, other times it just sits there and looks at me. My painting is almost childlike in that when my brush hits the canvas, I am having fun.
I paint with abandon, emotion, and colors rule. I love color! However, I work spontaneously with a limited color palette of mostly primary colors.
I am both a Psychologist and a painter of people. I am fascinated with movement between people, be it physical, psychological, or emotional. I have a very personalized approach to portraiture which features certain important psychological realities of my subjects.
On occasion, I love to paint saucy birds, and charming vegetables as well.

I am a self-taught artist based in Salisbury, Maryland. While I have always enjoyed the arts, and visual arts in particular, I did not start drawing and painting seriously until about 12 years ago, at age 50.
My art is where I can find peace, joy, and energy all at once. I work primarily with acrylics, artist markers, colored pencils, and sometimes a combination of all three. Above all, I enjoy using my imagination and creating unexpected scenes.
