I started in photography more than 40 years ago with both 35mm and medium format cameras. I did weddings and a lot of travel photography and had my own darkroom, to include color printing. However, as my kids started growing up and I got busy with work, I slipped back to using point and shoot cameras for many years, to include my first few digital cameras. Then three years ago my son showed me his new DSLR. I held it in my hands, took a few photos, and was hooked. I dived right back in and am primarily shooting landscapes and nature photographs.

I grew up in a world of art and color.  The women in my family have always been artists in their own mediums and continue to encourage art.  Early on I found a love for photography, the mindfullness of composing an image and sharing that connection with the world pushed me to practice more and more.  The paints and pastels of my Mothers art brought out my love of color, the shapes and glazes in my Grandmothers art returns you to the earth and its textures.  I used photography to share these influences of color and earth.

Oberman Michael
Michael Oberman,,,,Photgrapher and Writer...www.MichaelObermanPhotography.com My interest in photography began when I was a music columnist at the Washington Star newspaper.  Writing a weekly music column for six years, I interviewed over 300 artists including Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, James Brown...a veritable Who's Who of the music world.  There were times when there were no photographers available to accompany me on assignments...so I brought along my Nikon.  Fifteen years ago, on a trip to New Mexico, I made the switch from film to digital photography.

I grew up wanting to be an astronaut, watching the Apollo missions with rapt fascination.  Looking at the world from a different angle as you would in space always intrigued me, that is, until my first algebra class.  I learned that that math wasn’t my thing, and without the math, no engineering degree, no engineering degree, no space flight.  So kicking around in Holland during my 8th-grade year (my father was in the Air Force), trying to figure out how I wouldn't be just another tool to society in my later life, I happened upon a person with a Canon camera with a very long lens attached.  As
