The most prolific multidisciplinary arts presenter in the state of Maryland, Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit arts organization in Montgomery County that presents and produces music performances, art exhibitions, and education programs on our campus, in the community, and online. Strathmore was founded in 1981 to provide arts opportunities for the people of Montgomery County and to maintain the then newly-acquired property in North Bethesda on behalf of the County as a home for the arts.
The Motor House building started out literally as that, a storefront selling a horseless vehicle that would transform the early 20th century. Fast-forward to our present century and the building, called “Load of Fun,” was home to artist studios and performance spaces.
Theater experiences can be life-changing. Through free outreach and education programs, the Hippodrome Foundation works to introduce Maryland students and community members to the arts and all of the assets of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. By exposing young people to new possibilities, we are raising the curtain on opportunity.
The museum is a catalyst for community building by allowing opportunities for community-driven creative engagement in a range of cultural arts. We provide the environment and inspiration for artists and community members to create and host events, performances, activities, and exhibits that engage, stimulate, and bring people together.

Why are we here?
To entertain. To bring joy. To foster community and learning through shared laughter. To lighten our shared burden of existence for a short while.
Why comedy?
Broadly defined and properly presented, comedy encompasses all of the human experience. It can make us laugh and make us cry. It can bring joy and it can bring anger. It makes us think and makes us forget. It exalts and ridicules. It can divert, and it can focus. Comedy levels life’s playing field.
Why theater?
