Washington Independent Review of Books
The Washington Independent Review of Books is a 501(c)(3) charity based in the DC/MD/VA region providing online book reviews and other literary-focused content seven days a week since 2011. The Library of Congress has been archiving our content since 2016, highlighting it as a publication of "cultural significance." Our readership is global, but we highlight and deliver local activities that are unique to the DMV. (Note that the "Type" of Literary Arts selected above is not very representative of what we do, but it seemed closest within the list of choices provided.)
ValCo Ornate Frames
Val Schaefer began his art journey purely as a means of art therapy. A disabled combat veteran imprinted upon and humbled by the experience of war, he unexpectedly found peace in the workshop. This is where Val discovered a unique way of blurring the line between frame and art, making them one and the same. Instinctively he knew the grandeur nature of extensive ornamentation was the perfect fit. The broad range of details found in the unfinished wood satisfied Val's need for complexity and elegance.

Mitchell Art Museum
Located in an award-winning building on the St. John’s College campus, just steps from the Maryland Statehouse, the Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Art Museum (/m) presents changing exhibitions in a free and welcoming environment. Like the college, we foster curiosity by encouraging deep engagement and open-ended conversation, asking timely and persistent questions of the human experience through art and with extraordinary artists. We are the only nationally accredited visual arts museum in Anne Arundel County and one of only five in the State of Maryland.
