The Frederick Jazz Festival is the premier, live jazz music event in Frederick, MD. The festival serves the community by promoting America's unique music art form, providing a platform for professional musicians, and creating a safe, family friendly environment for attendees to enjoy high-quality music entertainment. Located in the heart of historic Downtown Frederick, the festival works closely with City and County businesses, government, and non-profits to further advance the artistic reputation and work of the community.
The Mission of the Frederick Book Arts Center is to teach the craft and techniques associated with the Art of the Book. Letterpress printing, printmaking, bookbinding, photography, paper arts, and language arts are taught through a combination of workshops, field trips, school visits, and classes. All members of the community have the opportunity to learn, intern, and display work at the Center.
For over 20 years, the Eric Byrd Trio (EBT) has traveled the world as enthusiastic jazz ambassadors. Rooted in swing and be-bop, The Trio also embraces gospel and the blues as core elements of their expansive performance style. Their body of work spans seven unique studio and live recordings on which they shine as a Trio and as collaborators with an expanded 8-piece ensemble they call The Eric Byrd Trio: Brother Ray Band, in tribute to The Genius of Soul icon Ray Charles.
Lesa Cook grew up in South Carolina and received a BA in Studio Art from U.S.C. in 1987. After moving to the DC suburbs, she continued her fine art studies part-time at: The Maryland Institute College of Art, The Corcoran School of Art, The Art League in Alexandria, Va., and The Shuler School in Baltimore. She was a full-time student at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy from Oct. 2018 until March 2020, when COVID-19 interrupted her studies.
Sue Slagle (stage name SUE-C) is a video artist and educator working at the intersection of creative coding and live performance. For the past 20 years she has created handmade videos and live media performances, taught college level courses and workshops, and traveled extensively in the USA and internationally. Sue is the recipient of a 2020 Creative Capital Award and a MacDowell Fellowship.
By providing quality professional arts programs to the community, the Weinberg Center for the Arts strives to entice, enliven, educate, and enchant patrons of all ages, abilities and interests. The Weinberg Center for the Arts, Inc. was established in 1995 to serve as a support organization assisting in fundraising and community relations for the Weinberg Center for the Arts. Funds raised by the Weinberg Center for the Arts, Inc. are used to underwrite programs and support Weinberg functions.
Established in 1986, The Delaplaine Arts Center has grown from a grassroots nonprofit organization to a cultural anchor visited by more than 80,000 people and offering more than 50 exhibitions in seven galleries, 250 classes and workshops, and dozens of public programs each year. Virtual Delaplaine expands the arts center's reach and impact by providing free online exhibitions, artist-led workshops and talks, art activities, and more.
Esperanza Alzona is a sculptor from the Washington, DC area whose work has been widely exhibited regionally and nationally. Working primarily in cast metal and mixed media, her sculptures have received numerous awards in juried exhibitions, and she has received grant funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the Frederick Arts Council. Before taking up sculpture, she danced professionally, was an award-winning independent choreographer, and directed her own contemporary dance company based in Turin, Italy, where she lived and danced for six years.
