About the Artist
DuPont Brass is a unique, soulful, brass ensemble hailing from the DMV Metropolitan Area. Originally composed of five music majors from Howard University trying to raise money for tuition during the Christmas season, they have now grown to a 9-piece ensemble consisting of brass, a rhythm section, and vocalists. Gaining popularity from playing at local Metro stations, DuPont Brass started out professionally playing for weddings, banquets, and other private events in the surrounding area. Thanks to the foundation laid in their earlier years, DuPont Brass has had the opportunity to perform in conjunction with the D.C. Jazz Festival, The Washington Performing Arts Society, and on the prestigious Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. Consistently touching the hearts of the community with their heartwarming testimony, DuPont Brass has been featured on WPFW's “Live at Five” three times and featured in the Washington Post Newspaper five times. Through their training in both classical and contemporary styles, the rising supergroup has developed a sound that mixes varied genres of music, including jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. In their latest effort, Music Education, DuPont Brass shows us why they are qualified to excel in both the education and performance arenas of the music industry. Filled with a diverse arsenal of musical styles, they present a body of work made with every kind of listener in mind.DuPont Brass website Booking Agent Website DuPont Brass website DuPont Brass Website DuPont Brass website DuPont Brass Educational Curriculum

On their latest single, “Drippin’”, DuPont Brass proves that they not only have the juice - they have the sauce. The track showcases all of the passion, bravado and musical excellence that have placed them firmly within the heart and soul of Washington D.C. Musically, the group melds modern pop excellence with timeless soul. Lyrically, there is a sense of excitement that harkens the listener back to laying out a new outfit on the eve of the first day of school. A very specific, yet relatable experience of Black boy joy that we shared long before that phrase entered our collective lexicon. This song is “for us, by us”, but the music and message are still undeniably universal. There is something divine about this track - beyond powerful horn lines that remind the listener of Kirk Franklin’s “Brighter Day”. When the trumpets blare, a startling revelation comes down from on high: the most important love comes from within. Thou shalt not deny the drip.

A decade after their genesis playing for pedestrians to raise tuition funds, DuPont Brass is teaching us how it’s done via their album “Music Education”. Class is in session ‘round midnight’ as the opening track of the same name reimagines Thelonious Monk’s most notable composition. An album title which alludes to a musical conservatory is fitting given the fact that DuPont Brass leverages several of our most prominent musical traditions. Trap drums and vocal ad libs put a modern spin on the Jazz Standard, ‘Round Midnight’. Neo Soul meets Earth Wind and Fire on “Bring That Ass Here”. And ‘Homecoming’ serves up soothing R&B. The most impressive thing about this album is how eclectic it is without sacrificing quality. They are jacks of all trades, and they have mastered them as well. The musicians and producers of DuPont Brass are able to leverage all styles - including the modern melding of soul and pop in “Drippin”, “To the End” and “Au Naturale”. They are able to create distinct sounding, genre bending songs because they have cultivated musicianship, theory, and the art of performance during their own “Music Education”. The 2020 Olympics may have been postponed, but it’s time to award DuPont Brass the gold. Jazz, Gospel, Soul, and Hip Hop are this year’s summer events and DuPont is going for the full sweep. But don’t take our word for it, listen and you be the judge.
