About the Artist

Clarinetist/Saxophonist Halley Shoenberg brings together some of the area’s finest professional musicians to create joyful jazz music events.  Halley provides several types of jazz ensembles for concerts festivals, dances and parties. She performs at indoor and outdoor venues in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia for crowds of 30 to 500 or more audience members, Halley performs a variety of jazz styles ranging from Traditional Jazz and Swing to Modern, Funk, Blues, Standards and her Original compositions. She inspires smiling, dancing, toe-tapping audiences! A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Halley earned her Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies from Indiana University and Master's in Arts Administration from Florida State University. A multi-instrumentalist who plays clarinet, saxophone and flute, Shoenberg has produced three CD releases, “Love Goes 'Round,” “Someday,” and “Private Concert” which include several of her original compositions and she has produced several music videos for her HalleyJazz YouTube channel.

    Halley's Hot Gumbo Swingtet performs lively Traditional New Orleans Jazz and Swing. This group has performed for Great Gatsby parties, dances at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom, and for the Potomac River Jazz Club with 6 instrumentalists (several also sing) - three in the horn section and three in the rhythm section - but it could be larger or smaller depending on the event. Halley's Hot Gumbo Swingtet performs at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom for dancing.

    Musicians in this video include Halley Shoenberg - clarinet and saxophone and vocals, David Erickson - cornet (trumpet) and vocals, Kirsten Warfield - trombone, Craig Gildner - piano and banjo and vocals, Willie Clark - tuba, Alan Dale - drums. Recorded at Blue House Productions. This video was funded by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.
