About the Artist
Interfaith Comedy is a nationally touring, clean comedy show that reduces prejudice through laughter. Our mission-driven show leaves audiences feeling good, with more understanding of people from different faiths and backgrounds. Interfaith Comedy uses a unique approach to anti-bias work, where laughter and diversity training are each in service of the other.Artist's Statement
Interfaith Comedy is a 90 minute, clean comedy show with comedians from different religious backgrounds. The show contains 70 minutes of 3-10 individual comedians doing their standup sets, followed by a 20 minute Q&A with the whole group. Our ensemble is made up of comedians from Western and Eastern religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Mormonism, Hinduism, Atheism, and more) and is ethnically and racially diverse. **Our comedians are professionals with their own comedy careers and credits, including: NBC, the DC Improv, the White House, the Kennedy Center, Standup NY, Muslim Comedy Fest, Westside Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, the Moth, and many comedy clubs and festivals around the country. **We bring a broad group of performers, reflecting diversity with respect to gender, ethnicity, race, and religion. Comedy that doubles as Interfaith dialogue - and any comedy that seeks to reduce prejudice - is extremely unique. Muslims of any observance level, religious Jews, practicing Mormons, and religious Christians are not traditionally represented in regional touring. When these systemically marginalized groups do tour, they do it separately - in a Muslim comedy tour or Christian comedy tour, for example. These tours attract audiences who look just like the performers, and are often in places of worship or religiously affiliated community centers that match the group. Different faiths performing together, for audiences that do not share the religion of all the performers, is extremely rare. **Our show is non-confrontational, and allows the audience to challenge their own stereotypes through humor. We follow a strict set of guidelines that allows the audience to feel comfortable with the language we use. For instance, our comedians tell jokes about their own religion, their own religion’s culture, and their struggles of being in their own faith - no one else’s - so there is no mocking of “the other.” There is no proselytizing language, and the show is “clean” - no sexually explicit language or cursing, and no jokes about abortion or politics.Featured Work
