Jeff Thomas is a maker of fine quality concertinas. He was drawn to traditional Irish music and the sounds of the concertina as a young man and his passion for playing made him a pivotal figure in Asheville, North Carolina's early Irish traditional music scene in the late 90s. Unable to afford a high- quality instrument at the time, he grew accustomed to doing repairs on the spot. His adeptness attracted the interest of world-renown flute maker Chris Abell, who hired him to work in his shop.
The Anansi Trio creates music for the mind, body, and spirit. They are a group of like-minded musicians drawing from a wide range of global traditions, including Jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Indian music. With Mark Merella on his hand percussion and drum set hybrid kit, Larry Melton on bass, and Matt Belzer on saxophones, they create a music that is unique and experimental yet remains accessible. Using a diverse rhythmic approach and a focus on improvisation, the Anansi Trio hopes to put their stamp on the American legacy known as Jazz.

John was born in Baltimore Md in 1956. He was the first born and also the only child until the age of five.
John was used to playing by himself and using his imagination. He was never good at sports and had no real desire to elevate himself in that regard. What he did enjoy though was immersing himself in drawing. As a child he would enter coloring contest on the back of a cereal boxes and then days and even weeks later wonder why he hadn't yet gotten word concerning his obvious win.
