Amanda has always loved to create. Having grown up near Washington, DC and its world-renowned museums, she was exposed to art, architecture and design from an early age.
Diane Lorio was born in New Jersey, and now lives in Rockville, MD. She graduated from Guilford College with a Bachelor of Art degree in Fine Arts, Greensboro, NC. Her early artistic career as a painter started in Florida with her interest in abstraction. As she expanded her visual vocabulary, she became interested in woman's issues and traditional women’s creative expression. She began reinterpreting this tradition and it naturally lead her to paint patterns. Lorio has shown in museums and art centers across the eastern part of the US as well as Michigan, Texas and California.
My work is influenced by nature, in particular woods and farmland. I am very interested in layers and detail which I explore in a variety of media. My favorite media is ink and while I sometimes use color, most of my drawings are black and white. I spend a lot of time in New Windsor Maryland and find the landscape, flora and fauna very inspiring. A short walk in the woods can give me inspiration for months. Overlapping texture and detail that I notice around me out in nature, will translate to overlapping pattern, symbols, wash, and detail in my drawings.
