My present artistic inquiry explores the visceral and analytical impact of narrative and aesthetic forms. My images are provoked by identity, ancient narrative and colloquial expression. My work is also inspired by the aesthetics and influences of popular culture, cinema, celebrity, music and social media.
I begin my work on a granular level to rebelliously find within myself the rough and the unsocialized facts of my own fears and human nature to embrace, hug, kiss, and bring to the surface of my work by creating a partnership with the piece I am courting.

My name is Iyana Brumfield and I am 17 years old. I started dancing at the age of 8 under the leadership of Lakeisha Johnson, director of Fearless Dance Empire. Through her teaching, I found my voice and my power through dance. Dance has given me the power to overcome bullying , depression and low self- esteem. Dance is my voice and I can no longer be silent. Dance is healing. Dance is love. Dance is therapy for the hurting.
