A project of the Maryland Public Art Initiative

Designed as a metaphor for the content which links the performing arts with the humanities, the sculpture also creates an inviting outdoor space- part state, part gathering place - for a community to engage with one another.

"INFLIGHT" by Volkan Alkanoglu at UMBC Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building

"INFLIGHT" 2019, Volkan Alkanoglu.

Painted Aluminum.

A project of the Maryland Public Art Initiative

Inspired by visual imagery, diagrams and visualizations of a model for therapy in cancer patients, taxonomical graphs of air pollution, and microscopic projections of that research; the artwork illustrates how the work at the ILSB is constantly evolving, shifting, and moving as if on a journey or moving through time.

Sara Glik
ARTISTS STATEMENT I started photographing trees and the figure over 20 years ago. The figure reflects the different chapters of my life. The landscape represents the background and textures of my life. I look for trees that remind me of the human form. The lines and cracks accentuate the visual imperfections and reflect character that comes with age. I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years in the Maryland area.
