A native of Baltimore, Barbara Epstein Gruber's early career aspirations were brought to an abrupt halt at age six when Mr. and Mrs. Epstein discovered her going full Rembrandt on the wall behind the living room couch. This Crayola-on-plaster endeavor went largely unappreciated, and it would be 30 years before Ms. Gruber began to paint seriously again.

I have appreciated art from a very young age. My mother would take us to all of the cool museums in and around Baltimore. We frequented the Walters Art Gallery on many occasion. That is where I truly was inspired to start creating. After a few attempts to get into certain art programs during my scholastic years I decided to pursue music and give Art a rest for a while. Time went on and finally I got married. My wife saw something she really liked for the walls. Only problem was it was too expensive. I told her I could make something similar and I did and that's how I began this journey.
I've been drawing and painting since I was 5 years old, but never attempted to make it my main profession, even though I sold numerous paintings during the years while pursuing other professional venues. My work is genuine and unique in many ways. I use a vast array of conventional and non-conventional material to draw, paint, and apply on and onto my artwork. I do that by combining, mixing, and applying almost instinctively, in ways that might contradict mainstream painting schools dictates.
